At my favorite restaurant, I'm considered a very good tipper.

As a matter of fact? There are several senior waitresses (middle aged women), who are "pulling rank" on the other waitresses, in order to have me as their customer. That hasn't bothered me up until now, but lately there has been a new waitress - very good looking - who I would like to have waiting on me.

But at this point? She couldn't wait on me if she wanted to, because these other waitresses keep "hijacking" me as their customer. I know I can tell these other waitresses to just "screw off" - but I would like to do this without hurting any of their feelings. And besides - since they have a lot of senority - they have the ability to mess up this other waitress by cutting her hours or otherwise seeking retaliation. And they would do it to.

So what's the best way to handle this situation?

I had the same problem as you, it sucks. I went to the manager and spoke with him about whom I would like to serve me and why. He wanted to keep my business so he quietly spoke to the other waitresses and they were not happy with the situation and on the sly kept giving my preferred waitress H***, so I left it up to the preferred waitress to decide how she wanted to handle the others. She must have handled them fine because all is quiet on the home front. And as far as I'm aware no one has either spit or done anything nasty to my food! Which is good news in and of itself.

Since you don't mind spending your money, just slip the senior waitress a little cash and tell her you'd like to have the new girl and wink. You'll have the new waitress and the others won't be too jealous but they might spend the whole evening trying to see what's going on and then grill the new waitress after you leave.

When you go into the restaurant, specifically ask for this new waitress. If another waitress attempts to serve you, point out that you've made a specific request and to be denied your request would severely affect the amount of the tip you leave, if any.

I would ask to speak to a manager at the restaraunt and explain your situation. Tell him/her that you would like to be able to tip all the waitresses at some point, not just a select few. If he/she is a good manager, they will understand. Or, when you go in, just say you would like to request one of the newer waitresses so that you can get to know everybody who works there.

when you're waiting to be seated you can ask about whether certain waitresses are working that day and request to be seated in her area. that will allow you to get the waitress of your choice without having to just show up and hope you get the right one.

Ask your waitress to slip your phone number to the young pretty waitress you're interested in. ( we middle aged women love to promote young love.)

see her outside of her job. if you try to talk her up she will be back stabbed by the older women anyway. it seems lose/lose. do you just want to impress her with your big tip? show you have lots of money? if she is a gold digger she will like you. but any good waitress knows how to get bigger tips by flirting or acting nicer, but they don't want anything to do with you outside the restaurant. do you just want to make sure you're the hot shot in this joint? what's your point?

Ask one of the trusted "senior" waitresses to help you. If they think you are interested in her, maybe they'll help you out without being offended.

When I go to a restaurant, I have no expectations about who my server is going to be. I would just handle the situation by letting fate decide your server... afterall, you really don't know who needs the money most.
