my guy friend said i was a 2 out of a 10, was he joking?

He's obviously factoring in your personality. I saw this question a few days ago, but had no input. After a while, I noticed another question, looked into the asker's other questions, and there you were. From this post, I thought you were just shallow, but from the others, I find that you are also more than a little judgemental.

Without having real converstaions with you, I would have to trust the judgement of someone who knows you better. If he says 2, then 2 it is.

Maybe he likes you and doesn't want you to know he likes you because then you might not want to be his friend and he REALLY likes you, so he is playing it cool, like he is not with you because he thinks you're hot. So he has to pretend he doesn't think you are good looking to make sure you don't think he likes you........following this?

If I guy who is your friend really thinks you are a 2, he would feel sorry for you being ugly and all, so he would most likely say you were a 6 maybe 7, to be nice.

That's what I think.
