In old textbooks group 8 (or 18 as it should really be refered to) is called group 0 as the valency for this group is normally 0. These elements have a full outer shell of 8 electrons.

not now, but at first periodic table of elements had a 0(zero) column instead of column "VIIIA" or 18 which contained the neutral gases.

Well, if you wanted to stretch a point, you could look on the inert gases as a group 0 column. But usually they're considered group 8. And argon, krypton, xenon and radon have been demonstrated to form compounds.

No, but that is only by convention. If I were labeling the columns, the noble gases would be in column 0 instead of column 8A.

Why not use your computer to look up the answer to your question? Then you will remember the answer. Part of learning is learning how to do research. Why should I take the time to look up the answer for your homework, when you are just as capable of doing it yourself. No telling what else you might discover about the periodic table if you look it up yourself rather than relying on others to look up the answers for you.

No...that would mean you had atoms with no electrons (and so no protons either). That element (if it existed) would be a big nothing!
