In general, people with ancestors from sunny regions have darker skin than people with ancestors from regions with less sunlight. However, this is complicated by the fact that there are people with ancestors from both sunny and less-sunny regions, and whose skin color may have any shade of the spectrum of possible tones.

Basically skin colour is determined by the amount of melanin in the skin.

Evolution! Yes we have common ancestry and originally all Black skinned that protected us from the African continent sun.
As we migrated further east/north that protection became less needed and mankind's skin became lighter/white due to colder climates.
Some examples: In India people who's ancestors lived in the South are darker skinned. Most African Americans that live in the Carolina's are noticeably darker skinned than the Blacks who's ancestors have lived in the northern states.

It has to do with pigment and genetics. They say a person's color of skin is the same as the land they come from. I don't know. What I don't understand is why are those people from India so black looking and others are lighter. I have seen Indians as black or blacker than any black person here in the US and they call themselves asian. Look at that Aishwyn Raj woman she's light but I've seen them as dark as midnight. Genetics are a strange thing.

According to one tribe in Africa, they did not originate on this planet.. They celebrate this planet every 60 years..It is visible at no other time, as was established in the 80's by an astronomy team who went there to disprove the theory of the celebration. When they checked, they found out there were 2 planets there instead of the one.. the one was hiding behind the first one and could be seen only every 60 years.. Sort of makes one wonder a bit.

I guess some microscale evolution occurs, since people who are darker skinned survive more in hoter environments like Africa, and white skinned people have a better time in Europe. Over millenia it is possible that less adapted people die off, and the population starts to change within regions as those who do no adapt perish

The migratory process of human beings which eventually caused humans to settle down in different regions of the world caused it. Different climate, diet and culture caused the eventual difference in physical appearance.

I have heard that some tribes in North India share the same ancestors with the Greeks. Is that true? I need to read up more to seek confirmation first.

Due to amount of pigment in the skin. It's an evolutionary adaptation to the levels of sunlight each particular race is exposed to in their natural habitats. The more pigment, the darker the skin will be, thus affording more protection from sunlight.
