Yeah. I get a weird feeling when I see other people throw away perfectly recyclable things, especially in large quantities. Makes me ITCH for a blue bag! I wish more people did, and businesses too. At one store I worked at, it was unbelieveable the amount of paper products and cardboard that was thrown into the garbage each week.

Actually, a few weeks ago I went to help my friend move in and I know she doesn't recycle, so I brought two blue bags from home. Lame! But I don't care.

I do and am happy to do so, even tho it is mandatory where I live. Our recycling is picked up every other week and we sort into 3 categories: newspaper, mixed containers (plastic and glass), and mixed paper (cardboard, mail, catalogs, etc.). I recycle every possible thing I can, and, as a result, I only have to pay for regular garbage pick up once a month - and even then the can is not always full. Recycling matters!

Yes, I do and I don't understand people who don't. The local waste management company has two pickups a week, one for garbage and one for recycling, and there's no extra charge for the second pickup. In my opinion, people who refuse to recycle are doing it just to infuriate environmentalists and not for any practical reason.

Krazy_in_Japan, have you tried using a separate container for each recyclable type -- one for paper, one for plastic, etc. -- and sorting items one by one as you use them? That wouldn't take any more time than using a single container, and it wouldn't even have to take up more space if you used stacking bins (see the link below for an example).

It's the law here. If they find out that you aren't recycling you will get a $125.00 fine and be subject to spot checks of your garbage. Some tried to argue that this was an invasion of privacy but the fact is that when you put it at the curb, it becomes fair game for anyone to go through.

Recycling is a big deal, I agree but I do not. I live in Japan and these fools separate trash like there is no tomorrow. You know normal separation then they go deep with the label off cans and bottles, and food here and cardboard here. It's really indept and takes alot of time, plus you can't just put your trash in a normal trash bag instead you have to buy special trash bags from the trash guy just for this, it's major ridiculous. Cardboard I do cause it's easy, the rest sorry I don't.

I recycle and wish others did more. I don't worry about it all the time - but when I see trash on the road or other litter, I get irritated at people's irresponsibility.

I do recycle paper and cardboard. When others don't, it does quite bug me. They're not doing their part in saving the planet. In the end only, will they see the consequences.

Yes, I recycle. And I find it interesting how most of Northern California has embraced it, when only a few years ago recylcling seemed to only be for those who wear Birkenstocks.

Sometimes a good idea really can catch on after all.

Yes, I recycle. I want to do my part to keep our environment clean and healthy. I don't worry about what other people are doing because if they do not recycle, they will end up going over their garbage limit and will have to pay $ for each extra garbage bag to be picked up. (Our community has a garbage bag limit for each household to encourage people to recycle.) LET'S KEEP IT BEAUTIFUL!

yes, here in Western Australia we are given two bins, one for regular rubbish, one for recycled stuff, makes it easy.
ALthough I have read that only 1% of recyclable waste is produced by households the other 99% is produced by industry, who dont bother to recycle so sometimes I wonder if its worth it.
