okay, i'm not talking about a full-on-weaning here, but here's the thing : my six month old daughter will take about 4-5 ounces from her bottle lately, i'll burp her, and then she farts around and bites the nipple and wants to play with the bottle? she totally doesn't even want it, and before this happened she would take 7-8 ounces at once! she can hold a sippy cup herself already and enjoys drinking from it, is it okay to give babies their formula from a sippy at this age? i have a soft-spouted NUBY that she likes at mealtime with water in it.... i'm just going crazy here, the doctor tells me she needs to eat more formula than she is, but i can't force her to take her bottle if she isn't going to eat!! what to do?!
other info - she weighs 17 pounds, which is in the normal range for her age, but doctor still insists she needs 32 oz of formula now?

oh i forgot to mention, mealtime for us is when she has her cereal or baby food. i put water in her sippy cup instead of formula because she never drinks more than an ounce maybe when she is eating solids.

If you are feeding her solid food, she won't drink as much as she used to drink and she won't need as much formula. It does not matter if you use a bottle or sippy cup but for now if you are only going to give her the cup, put formula in it at meals. When it is bottle time give her five ounces in a cup. Make sure she still is getting lots of formula from her cup. I know other moms who had their babies weaned from bottle at 6 months. Every mom feels different about this but as long as your baby is getting formula you make the choice.

If she will take it from a sippy cup then give it to her in that. Also, another thing you might try is putting one jar of baby food with six ounces of formula- it will build muscle and wont make her fat. She might like the tast of it coming from her bottle. She then might take up to 32 oz a day. If you think that one jar is too much then just do half of a jar or a fourth and do eight ounces of formula. Just give it a try then if she still isnt interested then give it to her in a sippy cup. Just look at the bright side-- you wont have to wean her when its too late.

I think if she is at her normal weight then I wouldnt worry too much about her eating... with my kids when they were babies and still now (10 yo and 18 mo old) eat when they are hungry... sometimes its not much... other days and its a lot. I dont see what your Dr wants you to do... force feed her? I also dont see a problem with her having the sippy cups now... if she can handle them why not...

sweet....if she'll take it from a sippy whats the problem? you wont be one fo those parents that have to fight at 2yrs to take the bottle away. yes she still nees the formula...it is full of the nutrients she needs, that she wont get from table food, since she cant eat a steak yet!!!:) dont sweat it!!! those soft nubys are great....almost like a bottle anyways!!
