Why at the "theater", of course. Preferably Broadway.

By "beginning", do you mean geographic or pertaining to training? I'll talk about both.
Read lots of plays and make sure you can perform at least ten different monologues (from various characters, at least one Shakespearean) on cue. Work to get as many auditions as possible so that you get over the nervousness, and hopefully get some acting experience. Acting classes are also helpful, even if you are already a gifted actor.
As far as geographic areas are concerned, New York and Los Angeles (yes they do have live stages in Los Angeles) are good places to start. Just be ready to work at other jobs as well.

You need to get into every school play that you can, and do tons of community (local) theater. You must start at the bottom. Also, do you understand that this field is VERY difficult and few make it to the big time? You also need to take as many drama classes and acting workshops that you can. Eventually, you need to make the right connections with those who can help you along. And again, only a very few make it to the big time; most wait tables forever more.

The best place to start is at the bottom. You're more likely to gain the experience and growth when you start at the bottom and work your way up. Nobody with any amount of talent has started somewhere other than the bottom.

minneapolis is phenomenal. get to know some people, bat around ideas and if you're artisitcally simpatico then find a venue. there are many that take a cut of the box office so you don't have to have money up front and you won't lose anything on the rent. don't wait to be invited, make it yourself. (fringe festivals are good as well)
