For atheists, what are your first thoughts when someone tells you they are theist?

In most cases nothing at all, but if they are going to tell me they are a theist then my thoughts would be, that they are illogical somewhat. And I hope i can help them come away from the theism for there own good the the rest of the world.

I respect their belief. As long as they stay respectful to people so that they also respect that I'm atheist. Then I am very open to talk about religion with them. But I am more into the philosophical part of religion and not the dogmatic and controlling part.

I think, wow maybe they are like me. Most ppl who see an atheist think that atheists are negative individuals that lack hope. However, I think quite the opposite. Instead of thinking that God created this and has control over this, I'd like to believe that I make my own destiny. I'm in control of my own life. I don't need to depend on someone/God for hope when I'm down. I can depend on my family or me! I keep myself up. I make my own decisions and choices. I define my successes and losses. I make myself better. I don't need to believe that "God" did that for me. We all make our own lives. I have enough belief and hope in myself that I don't need to depend on "God." Good day to you!

Good for them. If that makes them happy then let them do it. It does, however, annoy the crap out of me when they tell me to accept the lord jesus as my savior.
