the MBR (master boot record) has been corrupted or damaged.
I had the same problem and was able to resolve it with an amazing program called Fix-It Utilities 6. You can get it at Wallmart for about $35.00. Download from v-com.com.

well this is a majority of all the OS for XP. don't be mad you are not alone. your best bet is to make a backup copy of your whole system or get a better software utility that can do that for you.

It looks like device fix isn't enabled? What kinda blunders/messages are you getting? verify your device fix settings. suitable-click my laptop and residences, click device fix tab.

Try doing it in safe-mode. Often that'll work, but no guarantees.
