He is the top student in his class, plays sports, has a sweet girlfriend. Very well rounded, a little mouthy at times, doesnt drink, doesnt do drugs, basically, he is a great 17 year old. He just doesnt get very many freedoms. I see him starting to resent things like having to be home @8:00 tonight while all his friends are out. Football starts next week so he will have games every Fri. I am really worried about him getting depressed. How can I get her to give him more freedoms?

Unless he's confided in you that he's about to crack under the pressure, it sounds like your friend has found a formula that works for her family. Obviousely her son is a great kid who respects his mother and himself and chooses to follow her rules. If only the rest of us had her problems!! lol

Tell your friend to learn to have TRUST in his son. If her son feels that she trusts her, he wouldn't resent so much. Tell her to let him go abit, need not be that much. Because if held on too tight, he will retaliate, and it's bad for the growth of her boy. He'll be depressed, inferior, wierd, and maybe insane as well. Boys & men need some freedom & space to be sane & feel in control to relieve their stress & tensions.

I know this mom who control her son too much that he had mental problems now. He used to be active (viewed as naughty) that he got alot disciplinary from his own mom. Then ever since, all he does is go into his room everyday. Door closed. No activities. No friends. Nothing. And he hear voices & act wierd. He's always very quiet. Poor thing.

first of all it's not ur place to tell ur friend how to raise her child . second chances r if he is that great of a student he will probably go to college and then he can do whatever he wants. thirdly he will b 18 soon enough meaning he will have more options to get away and live his life. ( either by moving out or going to college)

Just tell her he is old enough to slacken the apron strings a bit, before he resents her and becomes rebellious.

YOU SHOULD TELL HER BY BEING SO STRICT ON HIM IT IS GOING TO MAKE HIM ONLY WANT TO REBEL AGAINST WHAT SHE IS TELLING HIM EVEN MORE. SHE SHOULD JUST TALK TO HIM AND TRUST HIM SHE SHOULD GIVE HIM FREEDOM AND THE CHOICE TO MAKE HIS OWN DECESIONS EVERY ONE DESERVES TO MAKE THEIR OWN MISTAKES AND IF SHE DOESNT ALLOW HIM TO DO THAT SHE WILL REGRET IT IN THE LONG RUN

Unless you want to lose your Friend, I think you need to stay out of her relationship with her son.

Why do you suppose he's such a good kid? Because his Momma keeps him in line. Mind your own business.
