what are these, physically? its not like theres a wind pulling these things together. so what is the attraction? is it in the atoms?
I stayed up late last night thinking about this and I must have an answer.

ok, you two *points down to first two answers*, have not given satisfactory answers.
I already know gravity is a force and a field or whatever, and the equasion crap means nothing to me. I don't understand such things.

the website is a bit of a help, though.....

can someone do better?

Gravitational force = (G * m1 * m2) / (d2)

All forces are caused by particles moving back and forth between the objects experiencing the force (So there IS something like a "wind pulling things together").

The particles that transmit gravity are called gravitons.

The particles that transmit magnetism are called photons. Photons are also responsible for light and electric forces.

You could try googling photon or graviton, but I couldnt find a site with an easy explanation.

in gravity, there r no such things as atoms in gravity (as far as i can undesrstand). something like sound. u hear sound because of the waves but cannot say that it is filled with atoms. same goes for light. same in a way goes for gravity.

for gravity, u have to understand a simple point. every mass attracts everyting else thru gravity. this cupboard has gravity. my laptop has gravity.. i have gravity. but it is very little n we cannot attract forces towards us because our forces are so small compared to the earth. if u r pulling a string n someone else is pulling a string from the other side, the person putting in more effort will pull the string to himself (or herself!!!!!). But that dosn't mean that the other person wasn't doing the pulling.

magnatism has to do with the attraction of electrons n protons. electrons are those e things with a minus (-) sign on top of them n the protons r the positive (+) things. because they r opposite, they attract each other. that is in short magnatism.

Physically they are fields. What this means is that if you introduce a suitable test body into the field, it will feel a force. Think of a field as sort of a stressed condition of space, and you won't be too far off. This may not help much, but it's about as good an explanation as one can get.

attraction...
harness this attraction and you'll stop staying up late.
magnetic fields are the center of todays technologies. atomic structure and how we can utilize, simplifying our lives. I want george jetsons home. I'll be happy with his car, not even ebay can help yet.
