How often have we heard otherwise conservative people complain about the sexism/treatment of women in Muslim countries. We still have plenty of problems here in the USA. And I don't just blame the men but there are certainly enough males who love to repress and bully women around not just overtly but often in subtle ways. And that's just it. Just because women can vote and do so many things does not mean that there still isn't many glass ceilings for us eveywhere. We are still expected to do it all, raise our children AND go to work. We are expected to do it all and much better than men. Men can do what would be considered a half-*** job for a women and get promoted and richly rewarded on the job. The times are going backwards lately with a return to conservatism on the rise and women's rights are as well. Who here realizes this and is willing to address this very important issue.

I completely agree with you, and I think that some of the blame should definitely go to the religious right, many of whom are not forcing women back into the home, but certainly making it clear that women who work are bad parents and wives, as well as bad Christians for not creating the "proper" family atmosphere for Christian formation. I also agree that the "supermom" expectation is a form of sexism. It is a false expectation to expect a woman who wants to do it all, like raise a family and work, to never make mistakes and form perfect children while holding a high-stress management position. Women often feel forced to strive for this impossible ideal, causing emotional and sometimes physical illness. I wish we could level the playing field as we are all God's children and we are all people, but that is going to take a long time. Thanks for bringing up this topic.

Many men are denied good jobs or promotions because of hiring quotas as well, you fail to mention that.
There is still sexism, I am sure but things have gotten better than they used to be. Return to conservatism? I don't see that at all. I do see a barrage of PC liberalism being promoted by the mass media all the time.
If you think sexism is bad here and you may make a little less than a man for the same job, and I think that is rarer than you say, please don't compare that to the middle east, in the Muslim countries. You would be forced to cover your head or even wear a Burqua. In fact, your husband can legally beat you or kill you in some of those countries. Our conservatives here would be considered whimpy Godless liberals over there.

You are freakin lost woman! I am a woman. Womans rights screwed the natural flow of things. Before that you didn't have men sittin around playin playstation while their women were at work. They WORKED!!Or they starved. Yeah, we do have to do all that , so what? If you are with a loser, or someone disrespects you, let them think whatever they want, just like you obviously are. But it is fair that often men make more money than us, because even small men are stronger, and many of us dont want to break a nail or get dirty. Thats why we make less, because of our capabilitys, NOT opression! We are designed to nurture babys and if we work out of the home ,it's generally not as hard. If you can't understand how hard he worked while he was gone, maybe youre a perfect candidate to trade jobs with him for a week. I bet you you'll be hatin life and he'll be lovin it, and after it's over, you'll be up making breakfast thanking him for being such a great provider. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU???

I am aware and also aware that it is getting worse. Among other things the repression of women is a very important -hidden- part of the Republican party agenda. It suits most organized religions in North America.....we need to be speaking out, we need to vote for women and we need to get doing something about it. You made a good start just by putting the question up here.

I think you are crazy.... but I am in a marriage where I work and cook...and clean... and my wife is not working what about "desperate housewives"? Don't act like this is the fifties, cuz it is not. You are right that not everything is right but as far as bullying goes, women are learning to do it just as well as men (sex manipulation is at an all time high). Maybe things are different down here in progressive east texas but I don't know what you are talking about.

I do realize it, and have tried to help the situation by doing what I can. I donate to women's organizations, sign petitions, and write politicians. There are petitions and directions on other ways you can help at www.care2.com. Look under the petitions tab.

Legalizing Plab B as OTC was a great start - hopefully we can keep the momentum up!

Oh, and don't forget the REST of the sexism!!! Women are protected against abusive spouses, while men have no recourse. If the man is good and is hit, kicked, verbally abused, cut with knives, poisioned, ect. there is no recourse for the male. Women scream that they want equality, but they are not willing to accept equal responsibility for their actions in most cases. EVERYONE needs to wake up and treat each other better. Don't just blame it on men. Are YOU willing to address THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE? If so, please feel free to write me at my e-mail address, on my 360 page, or on my myspace page.

Luckilly, after marrying 3 ingrates like you, I found someone who truly DESERVES the loving kindness and equality with which I treat women.

Love, Hope, & Peace,

How hypocritical of you to even say that. You don't think every man in America watched the Clarence Thomas Hearings and imagined himself up there, being grilled like he was? How many sexual harassment suits have you seen filed by MEN? Darn few and far between.

Women wanted equal rights- you have them. You can vote, work your tail off and have nothing to show for it just like a man can now.

So quit your damn bitching and get back to work- after all, a woman can wimp out and push out kids and not work.

Men have a choice- work, or go to jail.

Women have far more options than men do.

nobody expects you to raise children AND go to work, that's why glass ceiling is there.

Even if you claim you do not plan to have children, it does not mean you will think the same in 10 years.
