You're right. He really shouldn't have been nominated in the first place(not even counting the Anita Hill/Coke can thing), and he knows it. He is in waaaaaay over his head, so he has taken the approach of agreeing with whatever Antonia Scalia does. Scary when you think about it, especially when it's a LIFETIME appointment

You might ask "Why don't the other Justices write as many opinions as Justice Thomas?" Thomas doesn't have much to say, but he is obviously paying attention. Justice Thomas is the most frequent writer of opinions on the Court. He may not have much to say in Court, but he does more "homework" than any of the other Justices. Start reading written opinions of the court during his term (or at least research the authors of those opinions) and then decided if Justice Thomas is contributing to the Court.

He is not actually a Supreme Court Justice, therefore, is prohibited from speaking. He is a backup singer for Mary J. Blige, and does this in his spare time.

He is listening so he can make the judgment, and his colleagues are asking MORE than enough questions to allow him to do so. Plus he recognizes an EXCUSE better than most, knows his job and does it well. Stop whining. Not one of you is qualified to pass professional judgment, or any other kind of judgment, on him!

beats the hell outta me. i think b/c it is OBVIOUSLY hard enough being the only black justice. i don't care what any of you say, it ain't easy being the only black _________(fill in blank), in any professional setting. so i suppose he (not-so-wisely) errs on the side of silence. as soon as he talks, intelligent or not, people are going to have something to say...good and bad. trust me. so he just sits there like a bafoon. my guess is, he probably would talk more if all that Anita Hill mess had not have happened. who knows. i think it's pitiful, personally. but not to the extent that he really is a fool. just that he is making himself look like one. he's nothing like Thurgood Marshall. but believe you me, people had things to say about Thurgood, too. people are always going to have something to say.

Oh la.. your question makes me laugh.. Clarence Thomas saying anything intelligent??? no way. In the first place, he does not know what he is doing and was only placed on the court due to his race and there was a quota that had to be filled and they picked him off the street... Did he go to school? I do not know

A better question would be, What in the hell is he doing there in the first place. It goes to say, "Anything can happen in America.".

He's afraid another woman might try to sue him for sexual harassment. Better to stay safe and keep his mouth shut.
