First off, your car doesn't have a speedo cable. It uses a vehicle speed sensor to tell the computer how fast your going. If the sensor fails, the computer will not see any speed and therefore not upshift the transmission. Further, it can put the transmission into limp mode which is 2nd gear operation only. There sensor are know to become defective, however they are cheap enough to have replaced. There are 2 of them (Input, Output) I would suggerst changing them both as they have been upgraded thru the years.

You need to take to a mechanic or dealer for some real diagnostic here. Your speedometer being inoperable may have something to do with your transmission as well and might have set itself in limp home mode to where it will let you drive back to a repair shop. Also if it has not already but your "CHECK ENGINE" light should have or will be coming on as well. Sorry but no one here will help you on-line with this one since we don't have any scanners to plug from here to your car LOL. Well good luck and let me know what happens?

the speedometer is an electronic connection, so it may blew the fuse, try to look in the fuse box for the " gauges" fuse, if its bad replace it, if it dint you may have a transmission problem, remember that the late model cars has auto transmission controlled by computer and if the tranny is bad the computer is not receiving a god lecture of the speed that your car has

This a common problem...There are two speed sensors, input and output. When one/both go bad the transmission doesnt know how to shift. When this and the speedometer quit, its the output speed sensor.

Probably has something to do with the computer. Best bet is to take it to a dealer and have them check it out. Find out what it is from them before you have it fixed. Maybe it is something that you could fix yourself.

cable or the gear that drives it is broke or not turning in the trans. Where you put the cable into the trans inside there is a plastic gear that turns the cable
