I'm trying to connect my father-in-law's laptop to my dsl modem. I have the laptop connected via a network cable, but I can't configure the laptop to broadband. I click on internet explorer and it keeps kicking into dial-up mode. Any suggestions???

You need to have an Ethernet network connector. If you don't have one you may be able to install one via the PCMCIA port.
You'll have to set up the new network connection and have it recognize the ethernet connection as opposed to the modem connection it was, and is still set up for.

If you don't have one check http://www.pricewatch.com

You will probably need to delete the dial-up connection, or disable it.

Go to "control panel""network and dial-up connections"

Good Luck

Click START, then SETTINGS, then NETWORK CONNECTIONS. You'll need to run that wizard to set up a DSL connection on the laptop.
