I have a preference for Rick Johnson. He raced in the 1980's to the very early 1990's but had to retire due to injury. He held all the records in Motocross and Supercross until Jeremy McGrath and Ricky Carmichael came along. The difference between them is that Rick Johnson continuously won championships in three classes. Back then, they raced Supercross, 250cc motocross and then 500cc motocross. Plus he helped the US team win the Motocross Des Nations 4 times. Had he not been forced into retirement, he would have won even more championships and set more records.

there are sooo many good motocross riders but the best motocross rider in the past few years has been ricky charmichael. Ricky is the only peson in motocross history to have 2 consecutive years going 1-1 in all his races, meaning he never lost a single race for 2 seasons straight.

If you are talking about straight racing (and current riders), I'd have to go with Ricky Carmichael, with James Stewart a close second. If you are talking about extreme motoX, Travis Pastrana all the way, with Jeremy (Twitch) Stenberg and Nate Adams right up there. And I can't forget about McGrath, Deegan, and Metzger! (Can you tell I LOVE motocross?)

In this day and age there is no doubt Ricky the G.O.A.T. Carmicheal is the best. While there are some great riders from the past, and there will be some great riders in the future, (James "BUBBA" Stewart).Ricky in my mind is the Greatest Of All Time!!!!
