Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones- "Those who are vulnerable should not attack others. The proverb has been traced back to Geoffrey Chaucer's 'Troilus and Criseyde' (1385). George Herbert wrote in 1651: 'Whose house is of glass, must not throw stones at another.' This saying is first cited in the United States in 'William & Mary College Quarterly' (1710). Twenty-six later Benjamin Franklin wrote, 'Don't throw stones at your neighbors', if your own windows are glass.' 'To live in a glass house' is used as a figure of speech referring to vulnerability." From "Random House Dictionary of Popular Proverbs and Sayings" (1996) by Gregory Y. Titelman (Random House, New York, 1996).

Think of anything glass. Now think of the impact of a stone on it. See, it gets destroyed, or torn down. The truism means literally, if you have the same issues, don't find fault with others having these issues.

im pretty sure it means something like you shouldnt judge others if you are in a situation that can be judged itself. If you throw stones at others, there is no doubt that they will throw them back at you. And if you are living in a glass house, it will shatter. Likewise, if you judge others, they will judge you back in a worse manner.

It means if your going to talk of someones faults or short comings, you better not have any faults of your own or be prepared to have your self worth destroyed, as in a rock to a glass house

well if you want to criticize or pass judgment on people. You shouldn't put out your dirty laundry in public for everybody to see, because they will criticize as well. Your life shouldn't be an open book for everybody to see. Otherwise they are bound to criticize or pass judgment on you.
