I have cyrillic fonts installed on my mac...and it is perfectly legible when i use other mail accts... particularly those based out of Russia of course

In the menu:
View->Charterer encoding->More encoding->East European -->(Now try all different Cyrillic fonts)

Are you using Yahoo! Mail Beta? If so, you need to set the encoding to the Russian setting. It should be somewhere on the top bar. If you're not using Y!M Beta, then I don't know what to tell you. Sorry if this doesn't help.

different language and font...it shows up as boxes right?

well because it's in Russian and not English.not real hard to figure out.....
