I got this fish about a week ago. Feeding is fine and all. But no matter what, the fish will not eat if it thinks im looking. Also, every time I go near the tank it goes and hides. It is a gold fish, and I hear gold fish can be very friendly and come up to the top around feeding time. My fish stays hidden til I leave to go to the top to eat. Any Suggestions on helping him be less scared of me?

OK this is simple it can take some fish weeks to get comfortable in a new tank.I mean look at it this way say aliens came down scooped you up and blam tossed you in a glass room and stared at you constantly. How long will it take for you to get comfortable.Be patient it doesn't know it's a pet but it will.Good luck.

Are you really serious? Do you expect your fish to act like a dog? It's a FISH! Fish are suppose to be afraid of moving object because in nature they are at the top of the food chain...

Just who told you that gold fish are suppose to be social? Did an expert told you this or was it a friend/co worker?

stop making faces at him!! brush your teeth - goodness they have noses too!

only joking... it takes time for adjustment. don't stand close to the tank after you feed. just come up drop in the food and stand back. hope he has some buddies - they do better.

keep down any loud noises and don't tap on the glass. Sudden movements can cause icks and kill the fish. talk softly to fishie when you are near the tank.

yes, goldfish will become friendly and very easy to take care of.

My only guess is that your goldfish is not used to be around people. Maybe the pet store it was originally at didn't have a lot of visiters looking. My best suggestion is to feed and be around your goldfish more often.

Don't look close at the fish. From it view point your face is big and ugly and look like shark with lots of pimples.

Give him time to adjust to the water magnified view of your good looks. Imagine what you look like to the poor thing. Scary.
