Keep busy. Go out with your dorm mates, eat with them, hang out with them. You will be too busy to be homesick. Study and keep busy. I loved college and you will too if you give it a chance.

Getting homesick when you start college is perfectly natural. Get to know the people in your dorm. Get involved in some athletic activities, the student government, or campus organizations.
Once your classes start, you will be too busy to be homesick.

My daughter chose a college almost 8 hours from home, but lots of her friends at school lived less than one hour away. Ask your parents to buy you an inexpensive phone card and call home on a set schedule until you feel less anxious about being away from home. You can IM your friends and send emails, too. As time goes by, you will feel right at home in school.

When my daughter was homesick freshman year, we bought 2 computer video cams. That way when she wanted to see us, all she had to do was turn on the computer.

Gurl, I felt the same way when I moved into college! I felt so alone because I hardly knew anyone. What you gotta do is stay active in campus activities. That is where you will meet all the fun and interesting people. I met some really great friends just by being active in my dorm's meetings. Hang in there. Things will get better when you go out and meet different people. Some people say college is where you will meet your best friend!! Good luck!

It may last a few days and it will come back from time to time.
Write a letter home (or letters). When you get letters you will probably cry, but you will feel better.
As you start to make friends and get into a routine it will pass.
It is normal to miss things that you are used to. Allow yourself to be sad for a bit, but them pick yourself up and go out and make friends and do things. You will feel better.
Hang in there!
