I need to know how to figure out the engine code

well you can take the number and have it run at a ford dealer ship,,this is the best and most accurate way,,,obviously,,you don't have a computer on that van.i think a lot of people should know that,,anyway ,,take the number to them,,or call them,,and they will be able to tell you,,also a old Chilton's book may help identify it,,i hope this helps,,good luck with it.

Its explained in the workshop manual,put up another question with the engine number.

you may be able to get a mechanic with a diagonistic machine to hook up to his pc and get ahold of ford motor company automotive customer service rep to download the code right to the brain
