there is no other way to know... feel his intentions, how desperate is his tone, whenever he speaks with you.... does he demand money or have you ever sent him money?... if he ask you for money and you responded, then he's after the green card.
remember, a guy never ask anything from a gal, specially if he's still courting you... filipino guys tend to impress a lady.. and seldom do we ask for anything. we tend to be soft when wooing a lady's heart. and filipinos tends to take the responsibility in finances specially when wooing a lady....

Heed to G and mankitako's advice. They are pretty sound. You have to be very, very cautious. There's a bad trait of majority of Filipino guys to be double dating;to have two serious girlfriends. Some married men have wives and mistresses. too. This is prevalent in the Phils.
Some immigrate here, get married to American citizens;leaving a wife with lots of children in the Phils. This is a bad influence of the Spanish occupation. After all, the Phils was occupied by the Spaniards for 365 years.
And even some residents especially the ones who were born in the Philippines are notorious for being unfaithful. It's a cultural thing.You're better of dating somebody over here. This way you won't have as much doubts and suspicions;well founded or not.
Unless you already have a long term relationship with this guy and know him quite well. However with that kind of distance , I suspect a trusting and long relationship is hard to establish.

There's a very good possibility that he might want a Green Card; but is it that normal when you're a filipina and he's a filipino??? I'm not sure. So, I would say to go for it (I know I would), but be careful and be alert for any Red Flags that go up (like, if he wants to know all about your bank account and how many IRAs you have). Then your gut feeling will show you the rest. Also, do you know anyone who knows him or his family or friends? That may be another way of finding out. Well, good luck and I hope everything works out.

Isn't that being unfair to the guy? thinking he is only after GREEN CARD , if you met in the Philippines chances are you met his friends and his relatives too, from there you can gauge if this guy is just a parasite or a man of virtue. If you doubt him better look around where you are now. At least you can have a peace of mind knowing you didn't give him his US residence papers.

just use your instincts my lady dear... test him, forget about your heart for a day. if you take the risk you must submit yourself to all the consequences if something goes wrong. if you know some people from his place and as long that they're not acquainted or in enemies with the guy, you can always ask them.
look in the mirror and ask yourself...talk to yourself...do u really need this? (or for any other reasons maybe)
one good test is, say that you love him so much that u've asked your parents that u wanted to move over to the philippines, ask him if that's cool. then wholllaaaa!

Just tell him that if you do get married, you want to go back to the Philippines and settle there. You'll know from his reaction. Just be ready to back your claim, like why, when..etc....

tell him that you're willing to stay and live in the Philippines just to be with him ;) dont mention anything about living in the US when you get married.
