A catcher in the rye,

Holden Caulfeild is an unlikable, whiny, self absorbed character, the story drags on and on and on and on,,,

horrible book, no clue as to why it is considered a classic.

I hate books with weak women. For this reason I absolutely hated "Plain Jane" by Fern Michaels and would NEVER read a book by this author again. I get upset thinking about the book.
In college Jane witnessed a friend being gang raped. The friend committed suicide and Jane grew up to be a Psychiatrist. Another woman is raped and she also commits suicide. Jane decides that she is worthless and gives her thriving practice to her new boyfriend because him being a man means he could run it better than her. She devotes her life to dogs and she doesn't even care whether the men who raped these women will have to answer for their crimes because, obviously, the dogs are more important than making sure rapists end up in prison. Oh and Jane lived in a haunted house--which is a whole other plot that really didn't even belong in that book at all.

What is sad is that the book could have been excellent. But it quickly went to the dogs.

I'd have to agree with landerscott.
I did nto like Catcher in the Rye at ALL. We had to read it for school. Holden was a very whiny guy, and he complained about how everyone was either lousy or phony. I liked the end a bit when he went delusional.
As far as I'm concerned, it's waaaaay overated.

I am the Cheese, don't remember the author. I had to read this book in high school (9th grade), I REALLY did NOT understand the story! I think the main character was in a mental hospital, but I'm really not sure. Like I said, it was hard to understand.

Do pamphlets and fliers count as books? lol My least favourite book is a maths text book, I really sucked at maths in highschool.

Oh btw to the person who said book of Mormon, what is the basis of your abhorrent and incorrect observation? What God couldn't continue on from the Bible?

Lord of the Flies.
Worst book ever. Kids get stranded on a desert island and nickname a boy "Piggy," then kill the sweetest character in the entire book. It even brings back bad memories of reading it when, for example, on the TV show Lost, if it makes a refrence to the book such as, "Now we're going Lord of the Flies?"
Uck. Just horrible.

The Fourth Hand by John Irving..... I really hated it and I don't even know what made me finish reading it...... Someone on a Greyhound bus gave it too me and I know why, it sucked!!!!
As to why I hated it... well really I cannot give specifics, it was just really strange and not at all interesting, it just kind of drags you along to the end and when you finally put it down you are glad you did and sorry you wasted a portion of your life reading it.

The Left Behind series

It's anti-semetic, full of implicit and explicit negative comments about assertive women as well as the Catholic Church, and it uses something that is not even in The Bible as a religious scare tactic against ignorant but well meaning people.
