Wax, a way to melt the wax. Containers to put the candle in, scent, and wicks. It's incredibly simple. (Go to a craft store and look in the section for candles.)
Try this for fun- Get a large milk carton (Cardboard type not plastic), cut off the top and spray the inside with a non stick cooking spray. Get your wick and put it in the bottom. Then around the inside of the container fill it completely with ice cubes (not crushed). Put the ice around the wick. Put it in the freezer until your ready to put the wax inside. When the wax is melted pour it into the container. Fill it to the top with wax (make sure the wick sticks out above the milk carton. You can trim it later) (Also do not add any wax after you fill it to the top. It will mess the candle up.) You will need to let the candle cool for several hours (maybe even overnight to be safe). Once it is completely cool take it to the sink and dump out the water. (The wax will be hard). Once you are sure the entire candle is cool peel back the cardboard. This makes an awesome looking candle (It resembles Swiss cheese). You can use different colors of tint and different scents. Go nuts it's great fun.

To make scented candles, you will need paraffin (for the body of the candle), wick material, color, scent, and a mold in which to pour the candle. You will also need a double boiler (NOT a pan that sits directly on the burner!!!) to melt the paraffin. You should be able to get all these things at a craft store; there are also online stores that sell candle-making supplies. It's very easy (I learned when I was only 9 or so); just be sure to follow safety precautions, as paraffin is flammable. I also recommend getting a used double boiler if you can, as the paraffin is tough to get out of every little crevice. Scent and color generally come in small tablets; paraffin comes in large blocks that you will need to break or cut to manageable size. Wicking material is similar to cotton or synthetic string. I got my current double boiler on eBay. I'm attaching a supply site to this answer - have fun! :-)

I don't know what is required to make scented candles, but WalMart has a kit for $30 that has everything you need to make candles. Where I live, the kit is in the front of the store with other educational stuff (telescopes, microscopes, all that Smithsonian stuff).

you can use canning wax,or just almost any kind of wax.You can even use a old candles.Put food coloring in the hot wax for your color. To make it scented you use essential oil, put it in the hot wax's and stir. You can find essential oil at Mal-mart,k-mart,in most stores. If you go to a candle shop or store. Most of the time you will pay more then at the stores I have mentioned.Have a good time and be careful with the hot wax. It will burn you if you get it on you. Good luck and always have fun.

They use scented oil in them. They pour the oil in it when the wax is hot so it mixes completely through it.
