I didn't wait the six weeks with all of my kids, with one I did because I was still a little sore.
Here is a site with info on sex after birth, it is through the mayo clinic.

I had them, I waited. The doctor told me to wait until after my first period (I did a week before that) because when I went for my check up (at 3 weeks) I still had all my stitches. They didn't ALL fall out until my daughter was about 5 weeks and we had sex at 6 weeks. I actually regret it. I didn't allow my body to heal all the way and it resulted in EVERY TIME we had sex (doesn't matter HOW) he would tear me (just a tiny one about half a cm). It was VERY painful and it didn't stop until a little after my daughter turned a year old and still happens sometimes.
You stitches may be gone, but it can take your body up to a YEAR to heal COMPLETELY. I suggest you WAIT!
Then again I had a friend that barely waited a week before she jumped her husband again and she didn't have any problem. Then I have another friend that waited only the six weeks and then found out that Vaseline and condoms DO NOT mix! LOL! She got pregnant right away! LOL!

I'm pretty sure mine were gone by a month. At around 3 weeks the knot of the stitches actually came out and the stitch was sticking out...but eventually they disappeared.
I know how you feel wanting to do it before the 6 weeks is up but please wait! I did it 1 day after my 6 weeks check up and it didn't hurt so bad during but after it hurt where the episiotemy was for about 5 days.

I had so many stitches... I didn't want to even think about having sex. Mines dissappeared till like 6 or 7 weeks though, but did not completelt heal till like 11weeks. Your dr will tell you what you can do. I recommend waiting though because you might feel okay but you can open up again or get infected. Also, make sure you use a condom and lubrication to avoid infection and any discomfort.

I wouldn't try it, even though my stitches disappeared, it hurt like the dickens when I had sex , and that was after the 6 weeks. Think about this, if you had stitches in you nose four weeks ago, and they had disappeared, would you still want to stick your finger up there? nu uh!!! wait for the docs ok. even then go easy and keep the ky handy!

Wait until you are checked by your doctor and are certain that the stitches are gone. You definitely do not want to tear, have to get stitched up again and start the time clock over again. Be patient.

I tried having sex before my time was up, I wouldn't suggest it. I know my stiches were gone before my check up, but don't recall exactly how long it took.

mine were gone before my checkup, but follow your Dr's advice and wait the full six weeks, you may be eager, but the pain afterwards makes you regret pushing it.
