If you came into my shop I would advise against it. A vehicle that age with that many miles just wouldn't be worth it. It would be better starting over with a little later model. But if that's all you have look for a low miles used engine, they are tested and have a warranty. Do not go to a junk yard for a used engine, you will be asking for trouble. I can get back on here with a phone # to business I buy used engines from when a customer goes that route, they are located in Houston and have c.o.d. shop owner ase certified 16 years.

I don't think you can just say it is or isn't worth it. It depends on a lot of factors. I think if the car was in good shape overall besides the motor, and you did the work yourself it would be worth it, as long as you don't mind putting in the time. I'm not sure how much oem parts would cost, but it might be cheaper to find one with tranny problems or something else serious that you could probably buy for a few hunderd bucks, they're cheap cars, and you could do a engine swap. It's pretty easy as long as you have the tools you need. If your thinking about letting a mechanic do it, I'd say it is def. no where close to being worth it in the long run. You'll probably have more and more problems in the future. I do know a lot of ppl that have cars they bought for 500 bucks and put nearly 3 or 4 grand into them, and its not worth it when you can get a really good running newer car for 3 or 4 grand, that is most likely going to run and drive better, not to mention a lot less maintance. If the car is in good shape i think you should look into parting it out on ebay. Probably the best way to make a little money out of it rather then just 75 bucks to the junk yard. I'm sure it would be nearly impossible to actually sell, but parts could be worth more then you think as long as you find the right buyers. well hope you figure it out, peace

I thought Hondas lasted 'Forever' hehehe...Anyway... I do not think it is worth repairing this car. Sell it for parts/repair to someone else and take that money plus what you would spend on the engine... and go buy a better car that actually runs! Hopefully you can get one new enough that it is actually SAFE with Airbags, Crumple Zones, and anti-lock brakes! The life you save might be your sons!

I had a 92 prelude myself and it was a nice car, if a replacement engine is good and you cn do he job yourself go for it but a mechanics time will outweigh the value of the car

Depends; is it a clean, straight body? How about the other mechanicals of the car: suspension and transmission? If the car is in great shape, sure, go for it. If it's dented, rusty, and plagued by other problems, here's the chance to haul it to the recyclers.
