Play sports, join a book club, volunteer, join the youth group at church, take a class in something that really interests you...there are lots of things to do, and you can meet other people while doing them.

It depends on your age. If you're still in school, you can use that by joining clubs or talking to other students. But if you're an adult, maybe....try posting an ad on the activities link on craigslist but keep your guard up. You never know who's really responding. You could also try doing some stuff with co-workers if you're working. Or, like the others have said, try myspace or friendster.

First you must build up your self-esteem. Dont be arfaid to go and adventure alone. If you like to go out on the town, GO, you will be surprised at how many people you can meet going alone.
I was alone after my divorce and I was miserable until I decided that my life was passing me by so i decided to hit the town and now I have wonderful friends and OH I found my perfect soul-mate.
Good luck.

Take a walk in the mall and just strike up a conversation with someone your age you may find that making friends is not as hard as you think, but above everything be yourself.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I went throught the same thing myself (lost a high school friend of mine). my advice is to find an activity you enjoy doing -rollerblading,volleyball,etc then try to meet new friends that way. That way you have common ground to start from.

how did you lose your friend, did they die? if so, i'm very sorry for your loss. if they are still around but you lost them by something you said or did...have you done that before? There is a saying, "The only way to have a friend is to be one."

Just be yourself and surround yourself with people who share the same values as you :-)
If people don't agree with who you are, screw them!
You are unique :-)
Glory in that!
When you look at yourself in the mirror everyday, you know you are staying true to yourself!
