I think considering our society "starved" only illustrates the common American perspective. The Africans know what it means to starve. I'm not sure that not being able to afford the new cell phone/mp3 player counts.

You cannot possibly be talking about the American Society. When my relatives come to visit fom Europe they are always astounded by the opulence of the regular working people. Having 2 cars over there are for the really well to do. Most people have only one TV. Most people have washers but much less have dryers. They hand their laundry to dry on cloth horses in the one bathroom. They consider that they are living pretty well.

Maybe it is artificially charged to keep us consuming more and more. I see no scarcity issue in the USA, we are a post-scarcity society. No, I think hording is human nature. Thats why we need free market economics to balance our infinite desires with the reality of limited resources.
