be more specific please. think of the nerve impulse as an electrical current, some words you will want to look up are...schwann cells, ganglia, pre/post synaptic neurons, synaptic cleft...when you start to get a hang of a few of these the big picture will become much clearer, but as your question is it would take a book to properly answer (a big book).

In short words, the nerve impulse as you put it is an electric charge that travels in one direction along a nerve fiber.

To go into any more detail would require a huge explanation of molecues, and different parts of nerve cells. So, try being a bit more specific, or check out a Biology textbook.
