JX, they do this (many times with trusted friends) because they have held it in them so long that they feel a tremendous sense of relief talking about it. You may be straight but you might have a trusting personality about you. It's difficult to have a friend like that who will listen, even among gay or bisexual people. I know of some non-straight people who seem to think they should never listen to another non-straight friend's ups and downs in life. They are a pain. So when your gay and bi friends find somebody like you (even though you are straight) they must feel blessed.

You don't like talking about it, so you came into the Lesbian and Gay section of Yahoo Questions to talk about it some more?
That doesn't even make sense! I think you love it!

i don't know where you live, but a lot of people live in places where gays are hated and threatened. coming from a place like that to a nicer, more accepting place, i am always happy to talk about gay issues. it sure beats not ever talking about it at all for fear someone would beat the crap out of me...

I totally agree with Michael. Your gay and lesbian friends are just talking about things relative to their lives. You probably do the same. If it bothers you don't listen, and expect the same.

They are being vocal because they are fighting for their rights. If you were being denied rights that everyone else has, to marry the person you love, then you would be vocal about it too. Being vocal and educating others is how you gain tolerance.

we do tend to talk about it a bit much
I agree
but we have been silent about it our whole lives (well most of us, anyway, me and others) and we feel the need to discuss it. If it makes you uncomfortable, politely tell her so. if the friendship has to end, it will.
