Hello harry7861,
If you are new to computers, then the Mac is definitely the way to go. Everything is pretty easy to use. Each Mac program works the same and the menu commands are in the same locations. Apple works closely with their developers to make sure that everything is intuitive.
There's no pop-ups that keep asking if you need to update the software (it can download updates automatically, or you can do it manually, like I do), no computer viruses, no worms, and no spyware.
The Mac OS X is based on a Unix kernal, so you have pre-emptive multitasking, protected memory, and tons of protection from hackers. You can install Windows on it. There is Bootcamp where you can easily move back and forth between Windows and Mac OS X. Rumors of the newest OS upgrade (10.5) have talked about having Windows APIs, so you may not even have to purchase Windows.
Of course there's also Microsoft Office for the Mac too. Frankly you don't really need it, but if you need to communicate between other Windows users, it's good to have, just in case.
The big reasons are all of the graphics programs. Adobe Creative Suites is the greatest and is enhanced for Mac hardware. It has become the industry standard. I hope that this helps. Good luck.

YES. You can instal Windows on it. You have to download BootCamp which is available for free on Apple's website, and then follow the instructions. I have a MacBook Pro with Windows XP professional on it, and It works great! (except for the fact that Windows still sucks, no matter WHAT hardware it's running on...lol) The graphics are really good, and yes, you can run office and games on the PC side. Hope this helped, and email me if you have any more questions!

i just ordered a macbook pro about 2 hours ago. at work i got a G5 about 2-3 weeks ago. They're powerful and fast. there are programs that can run windows, but i wouldn't bother. they make Microsoft office for the mac. you get word, excel and powerpoint. and if you need access, you should get filemaker pro because it's just better. the graphics are incredible and you can get a glossy screen (which is what I decided on) so they're better. most programs made for the pc are available for the mac as well.

Dell doesn't suck. I am using one myself and have no problems with it. BTW, I am not a Dell employee! However, if you like to work in both the Mac and Windows platform, go for it. In fact, once my current Dell machine starts to wear and tear, the MacBook Pro is what I would buy.
You can install Windows on MacBook Pro by partitioning your drive into Mac and Windows partition thru Boot Camp, available from Apple. Why not go to www.apple.com for more on this.
