I got a job offer for 60K/yr as a logistics analyst in south NJ for Sony. I had been laid off 6 mos. back, but after looking for work for a while I kinda gave up and got myself admitted into the Masters in Accounting program at UT Austin. Now after 1 month into my new program one of the companies I had interviewed 40 days back finally offerre me 60K for a job. I really like Austin and and doing OK in the accounting program. I feel that if I was in a finance/ accounting to begin with I wouldnt have to wait for so long to get another job. SO what do you all think...should I continue in the accounting masters or take up the job? I have substantial scholarships for the MAcc program plus its Austin, so thats a big draw. On the other hand the salary is 60K. WHich would be better in the long run?

P.S. I was terminated from my last consulting job working for a tiny company after just 2 mos.

I recently graduated, with honors, with my masters in public administration and have been unable to find a job. Now, since I am a single female, I have run out of money and will be homeless and forced onto welfare soon. I will be getting evicted in a few weeks since I am unable to pay my rent. If I were you, take the SONY job and go to school part time. Accounting is a great field to be in. SONY may even reimburse your tuition, I don't know. I am in massive debt now, with no future in sight. So, in your best interests, take the job since it pays incredibly well. You will have your degree soon enough as a back up. Good luck to you.

I'd say Master. Yes it's as whopping 60K but consider what you will get if you have the Masters degree. It could go higher than that.

Or better yet ask the company if you can continue the program while working for them.

You can have the best of both worlds, talk to Sony about continued education program. Alot of Major Companies will help to pay for your school. Take the job and finish school at night.

I say take the job. If you can finish your program through online classes at the school you're at, do that as well (though it may cost more if you're out of state.) Or just transfer to a diff school if that's possible.

I would take the job!!!!! You can grow with the company and even sometimes they will foot the bill for your masters. I would take my chances 1st!

Get you degree. That comes from someone who didn't do that 30 years ago. It will pay you returns, not imagined at this point.

Take the job, school is always there... 60k isn't.
