I'm just wondering if this is something they are asking everybody to do at this time (or recently) or if these info. updates are at known intervals based on when you originally signed up.

if you got it in an email, do not click on the link since it could be a trick. what you should do is delete that email and go and open your own browser by typing paypal.com or whatever the site is and go in on your own and determine if it's real or not.

if you signed into your paypal account it's legitimate.

sometimes spyware reports to other companies your email address and what you sign into so they can send out these emails in bulk to everyone. paypal is major and alot of ppl have and it's probably fraudulent. i once had gotten on a DAILY basis supposed paypal emails that said my account was accessed by internet service providers in romania and all foreign countries. this is just a ploy to get your sign in information and steal your money and make fraudulent purchases. don't fall for it

i did update my account information due to a credit card expiring, just be sure not to click on the website they have offered, i am sure it's a ploy

DONT DO IT!!! I get these all the time and it is just fake emails from people trying to scam you. If you want to make sure, when you go to the link they usually provide, type in a password that you know isn't yours and see what happens. I am willing to bet it will "log" you in and ask for all of your credit card info.
Assuming you already did it, make sure to contact your credit card company ASAP to report the fraud.

When you originally sign up for Pay Pal, they say they won't send you requests like this.
What you have received is a look-alike email that is trying to steal your account information. This kind of fake email is called phishing.
Do not respond to any request like this.

Definatly phishing. I get about 1 of these a week, including for Paypal accounts that haven't been active in years. Don't do it. Forward it to
phishing@paypal.com

Dont do it. Its probabbly phishing. check the URL and make sure its a payplal site. Be careful because some phishing sites are like paypall.com. Im not saying that site phishes but they have it named really close to the real one.
