No we're not because everybody is playing the blame game instead of fixing the problem. Local governments want to blame the state and feds, the state wants blame local and feds, etc, etc.The individual American needs to be ready. Look at Florida for example, you don't hear much about the need for help after hurricanes because we are used to dealing with them. The main thing you hear is about help for power outages. California rarely needs help after earthquakes for the same reason. We need to not rely on the government and prepare ourselves. You need to be able to survive for a minimum of 72 hours without power, water, or transportation.

People have a responsibility to take care of themselves and to prepare themselves if they haven't tough luck and if you consider past Disasters with Katrina, it doesn't measure up. It was as bad as it was because Louisiana is one of the most mismanaged States it the entire country.

Look back in our history for things like the Jones town Flood or San Fransisco earthquake of the early 1900's those were disasters. Or Galveston, almost all of Galveston,TX was swept into the gulf by a Hurricane.

Last time I check in a Democratic Society the people are responsible for themselves and the Government regulates the issues by the people. In a Socialist Country the Government is responsible for the people and they don't control their Government. Louisiana, dropped the ball and the whole country got to see them show their @55.

How can you ever be really ready for what might happen? Noone could foresee how bad Katrina was really going to be. It's just very difficult to plan for something you don't know will happen. Take it all day by day and move on.

well no one really knows. ho wthe hell could we? but whatever it is we gotta deal with. its not like we have a choice. but really the only chances i think of faster evacuation would be for bill gates or someone ultra rich like him to donate a billion or 2 so they can make more road lanes. and a few more billion for research on new fuel resorces. but really all we can do is hope its not bad. and deal with it if it is
