Absolutely! False negatives are common if you test too early. A pregnancy test detects certain levels of the hcg hormones. If you test too early, your levels might not be high enough for the test to detect it.

Yes. You have to wait at least six-twelve days for the test to work reliably.

All tests currently available to test for the presence of a pregnancy look for the presence of the beta subunit of hCG or human chorionic gonadotropin in the blood or urine. They are usually performed after a missed menstruation or 2-3 weeks after ovulation.

HCG can be detected in urine or blood after implantation, which occurs six to twelve days after fertilization.[1]. Some home pregnancy tests claim to detect hCG as early as 4 days before the next expected period. Whether that statement is accurate for an individual woman depends on the length of her luteal phase and on how soon that individual embryo implanted. Quantitative blood (serum beta) tests can detect hCG levels as low as 1 mIU/mL, while urine tests have published detection thresholds between 20 and 100 mIU/mL, depending on the brand.[2] Qualitative blood tests generally have a threshold of 25 mIU/mL, and so are less sensitive than some available home pregnancy tests.

I am guessing that by fail you mean the test is negative. Many women will have their test come up negative while they are pregnant if they test too early. So, it is possible that it could come up positive in a few days.

Yes, I believe it says on the box how accurate it is according to percentage points. However, it's very likely you're not pregnant if you fail a test.

Absolutely. Labs are constantly running fals/positives and false/negatives tests. To know for sure, your OB could give you a diagnostic ultrasound. You could take a number of tests, don't rely on just one. And when it comes time to lay flat on your tummy, you'll know when you have to protect your baby! Give it some time and pursue the question until you have an answer. Then you'll know what to do.

Yes, depending on a few things. It may be that you tested too soon, and the hormone cannot be detected. Make sure you are late, and then I would take the test when you first wake up. This urine is usually stronger, and the hormone will be more potent.

Yes. Maybe there's not enough HCG in your urine so it cannot be detected during the test. Wait a little more time and have your urine tested again. Best time is early in the morning with your first pee.
