I'm an engineering student and I want to change my notebook, I was looking in Best Buy but I just can't decide between VAIO or Apple; What do you think, and why???

Firstly, I will address the issue of no virsuses for apple...Virus producers are terrorists...they like to make lives miserable...the most lives as possible! What does this have to do with anything? The majority of households and businesses use Windows machines...so, naturally, Virus producers target windows, and not Mac.

Secondly, I will address this new virtual windows software to run on Mac. What's the point. Windows computers are much cheaper...and with regards to the virus business. By running such software, you're computer is running as a windows machine and therefore, has the potential to catch the viruses you thought you were safe from.

Mac is just way expensive...and does not do anything to support the price. You could buy two full blown Windows laptops for the price of a Mac! Mac just has to charge high to support their lower sales that Windows.

Go with a Windows machine...VAIO is rather on the expensive side though...you're paying for the name. I'd say dell is the best. or Acer...HP...mah beh...not the greatest but ok.

Hope this helps

Oh man, what a dilemma you have. As an IT student in college I agonised over this for years! I finally caved and bought a sony vaio because 4 years ago it was cheaper than an apple (under 1000.00). It gave me years of good service crashing only when I upgraded to Win XP pro from Win XP and stabilised only when I downloaded sp2.

Two months ago I bought my second Vaio. He's a thing of beauty. Sleek, slim and silver. The real reason again was cost. A paltry 700.00. So far performance is good and fast. My games run well. I got alot of compliments from strange guys about its beauty and well placed ports and features. If I could change anything I would choose a better video/display card and pay the extra cash for it. As it were I listened to the store clerks and well...they know less than me! :)

My next buy would be Apple...I think.

Sony still has the edge on Apple:

Sony Vaio. I have two, desktop and laptop. I had an Apple a few years ago, and I like the Vaio much better.

I don't own either one but, I heard that VAIO's are unreliable and have bad histories. Don't quote me, I just heard it from a couple of people. I know people that own Apple computers and they say they are wonderful. As soon as I can, I'll probably switch to an Apple.

I'm not really good at these answers but I heard that Apples works better on engineering and design... I don't know, I got a friend that uses Apple...

To me their is no comparison to an Apple computer! Ive been using this mac for two years now and have had no virus's ever!! They are made to be like that and I swear by them and don't think you will disappointed in the least with a mac. Their programing is a little different but once you get used to it, you be home free with using it to its fullest potential

my latest buy is a sony vaio.......and i have to admit it is the best money i have spent on a pc....i can play my mmorpg, and download music at the snap of a finger, and still check my mail and not worry about it slowing down, or crashing. it is water cooled, and fully contained, so no worries about where to put the tower.............over all it is AWESOME

Apple. Especially now that you can run Windows and OSX. It is better hardware and better software, and its just cool. And don't buy from Best Buy, they treat their employee's like dirt.
