I have felt separated from American society, especially spiritually for a long time now. What consumes most of society, climbing the work ladder, getting the newest car, bigger house, fancier tv, etc, doesn't seem like it makes anyone happy and isn't a worthwhile use of the time one has on earth.
With the way America is heading with the polarity of religion, especially the Christian fundamentalists in power and controlling most of the political decision making, we will be going into more wars to fight 'terrorists' that are more for fighting those who do not follow Christianity than anything else. We have lost our position of favor with the world and now will be acting like the Romans and our empire will begin to fall. You can't police the rest of the world and bring peace when you are the one causing more harm than good.

okay maybe you are focusing on the wrong thing. If you think about it in what we know as the written history of the world it's just mostly war. With I think some where in the area of 80 years of peace. Now when you look at it that way it seems depressing. But I choose to look at it as when the writers of what ever time period were having a good day they were off experiencing it. In our society we are confronted with so many negative images of war and violence through the media, that it can be overwhelming. Why it is important for us as a nation to stay informed, it is also important for us to focus on good things every once in a while, even if its just on a personal level. Just think about it, if we try to understand why a whole country goes to war there is no problem with it. Now lets imagine what it is like to try to figure out good ways to help that same country for the better on the same level that we try to understand war. Would we be better. In the end i guess it's kind of a personal struggle to do the best you can do with out hurting other people. If this doesn't answer the question I'm sorry, but for this one there are no easy answers.

I believe that Bush has put us in a deep hole that we cannot get out of. I also feel isolated because I was one, of many, who did not vote for Bush. I didnt believe in what he wanted to fight for, and obviously he hasnt done much fighting or we wouldnt be in a war right now. I think that every woman dreams of being president of the U.S. but I believe that once a woman becomes president it will result in a major loss to us. We have to face it, woman are soft. We can run for presidency every year for the rest of eternity but I think society has finally gotten the idea that a woman president would be a failure. I am not prejudice, I have my beliefs, and if someone disagrees with them I would love to hear their opinions. I am one to discuss my opinions also and like to hear the opinions myself. I have also dreamed of becoming president, but I fear that other people share my ideas and beliefs that there is no hope for a woman president.

Yes. And no. All countries are changing. It is done unto us as we believe, so our beliefs, personally and universally are creating change. As that change comes into manifest awareness, we see much we don't like so we change our beliefs. Overall I think what appears to be happening in politics and religion is waking people up and pushing us to greater awareness. But yes I feel very isolated from much of humanity. I am a near death survivor and what I experienced profoundly affects what I see around me.

Yeah, dude, you can count me in. I not only don't like the direction of politics, but the social direction is wrong too. Everyone's in such a hurry and keeping up with the Joneses. And what's with rap music, anyway? Economically speaking, we have prosperous companies eliminating pensions, and CEOs making so much more than they used to relative to the average worker.
Can we cross over to an alternate universe where things are a little bit different?

If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem.. Do you vote, write letters etc. Do you try and determine where the society is going and make an attempt to change it? One voice at a time, one action at a time. Control what you can do, rather than throw up your hands and accept the spiral.

well, i am not there, but that seems to be the same for the UK, so welcome to our club. i guess, thanks to the warmongers, that it is the meek who will inherit the earth! (Yeah, like that will ever happen!)
Funnily enough, I agree with the above poster, M8, and was saying to friends today the same thing, as I watched 11 people park in the disabled car-park at the local shops today (All had no permits to park there). Look to yourself, I was saying - and before people say I should have complained, that all it takes is for an average person to say nothing for evil to win (blah blah!), take note of the number of people who are stabbed, assulted, and abused in the UK for mearly pointing out violations of the rules. Look to yourself, and your own.
Best wishes!
