I use to think so a long time along but not anymore. The racial divide in this country has grown to a point where people from difference races just don't what to be bothered with each other anymore. Whites are sick and tired of being called racists all of the time when it's clear to everyone that blacks perpetuate racism more than any other race on this planet. Race relations will never get any better. It's a fact of life. As long as blacks keep playing the race card at every opportunely it will continue to turn everyone else off completely. I'm sick of it myself.

I don't know that there will ever be an African American President. I don't know why there wouldn't be one. I know one thing for sure, if Colin Powell had decided to run in 1996 against Bill Clinton then he would have easily defeated Clinton. As far as I see right now in national politics I do not see an African American strong enough for a run at the job in 2008. Condi would be nearly there, but she isn't well received by most of the African community.

By saying African-American, you are saying that the person is of a African nationality, and at some point emmigrated to the United States, becoming a citizen. I was born and raised here in the United States and I do not go around calling myself a Dutch-American. Now when the question of whether we will ever have a black president is raised, I believe that we will eventually have a black president.

I have great admiration for Condi Rice. She will make a good president, even if I am not an American. Not only will she be black president, but a female on top of it. I am a male but we have seen that it often took influential women to change the course of history. Condi, if I could, you have my vote!!!
Thanks for this great question. Hope many have the same thought and vote her in. A historical moment for African Americans. I am one too, born in South Africa, thus a real African American except I am caucasian. Is that Confusing or WHAT?

I agree. The white ones are too worried about keeping radical countries happy for their own benefit.
America needs a president who has strength and great insightfullness who can't be bribed.
Can't see that happening while all the white boys keep kissing butt so I am with you all the way.
I know racism is alive and well there still but look at Martin Luther King, how true and just was that man. He spoke his mind and sufffered the consequences.
The President of the United States is called the leader of the free world. It would be nice to see someone in that position who could live up to that title.
I am Australian and my opinion probably doesn't matter to you but from this side of the fence, we are obliged to follow the call of America, and no-one here is happy about many decisions made.

I do believe it.
But I think it will only happen when everybody is American.
Segregating into Italian American, African American, Latin American only serves to enhance racial differences. You are right, it is dumb to dislike someone based on the color or their skin - but is goes ALL ways.
Either people in America are American or not. And any American has the right to run for President.
PS: As far as I know there are no "African Britons" or "Chinese Britons" - just British people. Though there is an "Asian communtiy" just as there is a "Catholic community".
*** DISCLAIMER *** The religions and races used as examples above are "only examples" and do not attempt to exclude people from other ethnic, cutural or religious backgrounds. They were selected to highlight a point - NOT to discriminate. :-)

“Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

I think yes . But it wont be the party blacks think it will be when it happens. He will have a country to run and wont be able to cater to one race. Plus he or she will still have congress to contend with. Powell would have made a good president I think. Obama is just a kiss *** to the Clintons. I watched him on tv tonite on different shows trailing around behind Bill or Hillary. I dont care what race or sex a president is as long as he can help our nation.

I hope so one day.... what do you think of condi rice? that would make the first woman and that too black! It is more likely a republican candidate who is more loyal than the king to the neo-con agenda... such an African Amercan would have a better chance... given that if Democrats were to field one... the racists would ensure he or she loses by being portrayed as a threat to Anglo Saxon civilization.

Go Oprah! Just kidding (someone had to say it). I'm with all of those who have been singing the praises of Ms. Rice. Actually, I've been praying for her recently with the Peace talks. She would make an awesome president, definitely better than the wack-jobs that have been in there in the last 30 years. She doesn't have that macho chip on her shoulder.

They say Condi Rice could beat Hillery in the next presidential election. They say Colin Powell could have won the last election if he had ran.
I think we're already there.
I also don't think a "lot" of Americans hate blacks. If you mean by a lot a majority or even a significant minority.
