Watermelons should be kept free from weeds by shallow hoeing and cultivation. The plants have moderately deep roots and watering is seldom necessary unless the weather turns dry for a prolonged period.

To get a big watermelon, you must start with a seed from a big watermelon. It's not about the water.

an average is about equal to an inch of rain per week but with the weather you have been having lately and depending on how well your soil drains I would put it on a soaker hose and run it twice a day for about 20 min. each time
