You will have to sneak him in. Just don't take him outside or talk about him, lol. And vets WILL treat him! Check the back of Ferrets USA and the ferret vet listing is larger than any other state! It's not like they are actively hunting down ferret owners so you should be safe if you are carefull.

I'm sorry, but I don't really have any helpful advise for you. I just wanted to get on here and say how dumb it is that ferrets are still illegal in some states! Do people think they are wild animals or something?! They are as domesticated and safe as cats and dogs, for crying out loud!!

And where does that girl get her info about ferrets breeding and destroying wildlife?! If a ferret gets loose, it either dies of starvation or gets killed by a stray cat or dog!! And almost all pet ferrets are neutered when very young, because they will either be incredibly stinky, (male), or die, (female), if not!!

Yes you can! Get a local petiton going to legalize ferrets in Ca. In fact here is a site that will be further help to you i think.
www.legalizeferrets.org
www.ferretsanon.com

Hopefully I was of some help to you and I hope the sites I have listed will be further help. I am a ferret owner and I think ferrets should be legalized in ALL states! Good luck and also on what to do until they are legalized I advice you to try to find a friend from out of state to keep your little guy......I know it will be hard for you to do so, but I for one don't know what will happen if you are caught keeping a "illegal" pet but you have to think of what is best for your pet and not yourself! I have too been in this position and its hard. Of couse you could always say that your ferret is a mutant of a rat and cat....lol just kidding. I wish you the best of luck!

No, you cannot own one legally in CA., although I know many people in CA that have them. Not sure where you live but in So. Cal there is a group that meets called "Ferrets Anonymous". Ironically enough they used to meet at the Pasadena Humane Society. Also if you have one here, you may be in a bind if you need your ferret treated by a vet...most vets will treat them, but some may turn you in, so you really need to be careful. All the pet stores here in CA carry a large variety of ferret products so no problems there. Good luck.

Try the support group 'Ferrets Annoynmous'. I just saw it on the t.v. today! There sure to have a website. The members of the group are kept secret. They're a group of ferret owners in the state of California as well. They are also trying to lift the ban of ferrets in California as well. Ferrets Annoynmous also has a list of supporting veternarians in the area as well I believe.

That's weird. I don't like ferrets at all but I think you should be able to have them if you want. My sister isn't allowed to have turtles in her apartment so whenever the landlord stops by she just puts them in a bucket with water in a closet. You could just be sneaky about keeping your ferret.

Legally, no, but you can have one. California is one of only two states to ban them, and I figure if they are neutered and de-scented, I can't understand why they're banned. Most states will only sell them to an individual (not a licensed breeder) once they've been neutered and de-scented anyhow. If this was not done to yours, go have it done, as soon as possible.

If you ever travel out of state with your fur-kid, be sure and avoid the big checkpoints at the borders if possible, so as to not have him seized. And there are veterinarians who will treat them, no questions asked.

I suppose if you were a zoo you could have a ferret, but not as a private citizen. California banned ferrets because when they get loose, they breed and destroy native wildlife. Please be responsible and find a home for your pet out of state.
