In my family we have a Book detailing our ancestral history back to almost 800 Years. The names and details of all my ancestors are given in details in that book as to what they did, how they lived and whom they married and all that. It is a good read.

Let's see--my father, John Battershell, Jr., my grandfather, John Sr., my great-grandfather, Enos, my great-great-grandfather, John Wallace, and I'm not sure who is in between, but my great-. . .grandfather, Freeman, who served the duration of the Revolutionary War. He was the character of the family. When he and his buddies heard about Lexington and Concord, they stripped and did an Indian war dance on the courthouse lawn. They were at Valley Forge, and George Washington once said that they'd do more harm to the British if they were on the British side.
