No. Jermaine Dye won't and shouldn't win it. A couple reasons.

1) I'm not even sure he's having the best season of anyone on his team. There is that other guy named Jim Thome.

2) The White Sox have underperformed. They should have won this division. They have the most talent. They have been outmanaged and outplayed this season by the tigers.

I think the five contenders for AL MVP are: David Ortiz, Derek Jeter, Jermaine Dye, Jim Thome, and Joe Mauer.

In my mind, Dye, Thome, and Mauer are eliminated because they aren't clearly having a better season than anyone on their team.

That leaves it between Ortiz and Jeter. Ortiz should win this. There shouldn't be any question. MVP's have been awarded to even last place teams before, so I think the old red sox won't make the playoffs argument sucks. But, alas, I think Jeter might win it. If I had to chose today though, I still say ortiz will win it. The Red Sox weren't supposed to be that great this season. They had lost everything, and the yankees looked like they should win 120 games. But the Red Sox led the division for a very long time and they overachieved greatly. Despite the injuries, the yankees lineup was still the most potent of anyone's in the entire AL. If the yankees had been #1 despite those injuries, then maybe i could entertain an argument for jeter. But they weren't. They were bad until cano came back and they got Abreu.

Papi should and hopefully will win this.

Depends. The AL MVP will go to a few players in different situations. Say the Yanks get in and Boston is out. Derek Jeter will win no matter what just cuz of all the injuries they went throught and they still managed to finish in front of the BloSux. If Boston gets in, as much as I hate to say this, David Ortiz will be the MVP. This will be the only way he gets in. How valuable are you really when you can hit 55-60 homeruns, ye your team doesn't make the playoffs. Not that valuable at all. Jermaine Dye will win the MVP only if the White Sox win the division. Numerous reasons for this: First, everyone already expected that the Wild Card would be the White Sox, so if they make the playoffs as the Wild Card, he has no chance cuz everyone expected them to end up there. Second, no one player is having an effect on the Wild Card. In MInnesota, its Joe Mauer and Justin MOrneau. In Chicago, you got Crede, Konerko, Thome, and Dye. In Boston, you got Ortiz and that gay girl Manny. Third, it would be spectacular if they could come back and whoop the Tigers in the last few weeks and win the division cuz no one would expect it. That's only how he would win.

So after all this, Jeter is the guy, because even though he doesn't hit 50 homeruns, he gets the important hits to start a rally, keep it goin, or cap it of. He has the most heart out of any baseball player, and he always puts himself on the line when his team needs him most. Plus, Ortiz doesn't play field, and his team trails by 5 1/2 games. The only way you can not make the playoffs and still win MVP is by having a 25 million dollar salary, or by hitting 80 homers. Ortiz will not make the playoffs or do any of those 2, so no MVP for him.

needless to say you are not getting baseball. ANY team CAN WIN IT ANY 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. that is why they play the season. The Cubs of this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days have no longer something to do with previous Cubs communities, i do no longer understand once you Cubs haters gets that by your thick skulls. i'm constructive you estimated the 300 and sixty 5 days the purple Sox and White Sox broke their winless streaks did no longer you, being the genius you're. The Cubs have as lots of a gamble as anyonne else, and in the event that they proceed to play the way they are suited now, i do no longer see a unmarried team which could beat them. to no longer point out the Cubs are on the top of each and every significant offensive class and likewise on the top of each and every significant pitching class. a minimum of the Cubs would be interior the playoffs this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days on an analogous time as you Cardinal followers are sitting at homestead waiting until next 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. EDIT: So in certainty your asserting, you do no longer care with reference to the present, very almost the previous? that is not significant what the Cubs are doing suited now, in basic terms what they have completed interior the previous. You Cubs haters make unquestionably no sense. once you are going to dogs the Cubs a minimum of having something to lower back it up different then your comments of thoroughly ineffective with the help of September. The Cubs have been somewhat ineffective final September while they have been the only NL vital team nevertheless enjoying.

It's between Dye and Mauer, if they keep putting up the numbers!!...If the White Sox make the playoffs then it's Dye if the Twins are in then Mauer wins MVP...

Dye BA-327 OB%-393 SLG-650 OPS-1043 RF-2.28
Ramirez BA-328 OB%-443 SLG-632 OPS-1075 RF-1.61
What sets Dye apart from Manny Ramirez is Dye is an excellent right fielder while Ramirez is a poor left fielder...Dye's RF(range factor) of 2.28 vs. Ramirez RF of 1.61 , means Dye makes 100 more catches over 150 games....Manny's BA would have to be 167 points better than Dye's to make up the difference, I'm pretty sure Manny isn't going to hit .494 this year...

I'm so sick and tired of hearing what a "team" guy Jeter is, IF! he was a team first, kind of guy then A Rod would be playing short and Jeter would have moved to second...Alex Rodriguez was far and away the better defensive shortstop...Jeter's RF of 4.09 is among the worst of all full time ML shortstops...

A(any) DH is not the MVP unless you want to change the award to the "Most Valuable half a player"..

dude if you think that he should win then he should win. i am a "die hard" Yankees fan and i kinda want big papi to win MVP cause jeter hasn't been delivering lately... i mean big papi deserves to win it because i like him, as a individual, not his team. hope that helps
