Well, I get in moods to read subjects. For a while there I was reading murder, mysteries. Then I moved onto political books. This summer I read a couple books on John Adams (very interesting guy) and also got to learn about the forming of America at the same time. Now my master classes are up and running again, text books.

Friends' opinions, Best Sellers list, ones that get mentioned in my magazines, the blurbs on the back covers and sometimes, the front covers (sad I know). I do occasionally read the books that I was supposed to read in high school but instead bought the Cliff's Notes for.

What kinds of books? Fiction? I go based on a genre I like. Biography/non-fiction for research? I try and research the author a little and see if they are credible or not (their school background, their area of study, what makes them a credible source). Sometimes I also go based on books that have been recommended to me. Any idiot can write a book, so it's hard to weed the good ones from the bad ones.

I select by interest and go to Amazon to check the rating. Usually I buy the book if I see five stars.

i prioritize the books by theme and then i try and make a deadline to get to them. Once i made a commitment to read all the African American Classics, then i wanted to read just the Classics, then i decided i wanted to read all the Banned books and then i moved on to trying out romance novels. In highschool i use to just go into the bookstore and bought the book just by the title and the look of the cover. I read The stranger by Camus. since your screen name is enlightened i would recommend Siddartha.

If they interest me. How do I tell that?
The topic
Read the "blurb" describing the tale on the back or inside of book
The author (if you're a fan of theirs)
The mood I'm in
Recommendations of friends
I am sure there are other reasons, but those are what I can recall at this point.

i read the name, i read the sleeves or the back cover, i read a paragraph of the book itself. in that order. if the book loses me in one of these steps, i'm not gonna read the book unless i absolutely had to.

relies upon on my mood. If i'm examining on weekends, that's continually a short, exciting, exciting study. Books that make me imagine are oftentimes longer and that i don't love spending all my weekend time on one e book. :)
