I have had a twitch in the corner of my mouth for close to 24 hours now.. It's driving me bonkers. How do I get rid of it?
Can it be caused from smileing too much?

Well, I can tell you what works for me. I discovered this little "cure" quite by accident, or serendipity, if you will. I had had a tic for three weeks, that was so persistent, it actually made the muscle sore!

Get a roll of Tums or some of the soft chew calcium supplements (they have chocolate, chocolate mint and strawberry flavors). Eat as many as you can choke down in about a ten minute span. Try to get six or eight of them down. Within about 30 minutes you should notice that the tic has significantly improved if not disappeared.

The reason for this is simple biochemistry of muscle. In order for the muscle fiber to relax, ionized calcium has to enter the sarcomere to get the actin and myosin filaments to "unhook" from each other Most of the calcium in your bloodstream is bound to plasma proteins and is therefore not available. That is why you need to "bolus" to get enough ionized calcium available.

IF, however, you have ever had kidney stones, please disregard this advice, and if you have ever had kidney stones I don't need to tell you why.

It's called a tic and it's not caused from smiling too much. In fact, I don't know what causes it. When I was a teenager, for one entire summer I had a tic below my eye. What a bummer. It finally went away by itself and never came back.

Just a muscle spasm. Worrying about it is making it last longer
