Depression.....depression can be extremely unbearable. many people feel that suicide is a sign of being a coward, but i don't think that's neccessarily true. i mean, sure they're 'backing out' on life, but there's a reason for that. they feel that there is no longer any hope left for them. they feel that they can no longer get help from anyone, whether this is rational or not. so, they choose to end their suffering.

As a psychologist, it's hard to gauge exactly where suicide comes into the picture.
My clients have very often said that they were most likely to commit suicide in a psychotic episode, and that they were only barely talked out of it. Depression plays a major part, but depression is a slow, gelatinous mental illness that freezes up the body. Depressed people are so depressed they couldn't even kill themselves if they tried. It's the manic-depressed -- those with bipolar disorder -- that are most likely to.

I agree with the other answers: depression. Depression hurts. Its physically painful. You have no self worth. You believe no one can or does love you. Your not lovable. You see all the things you think are bad about yourself and then you dwell on them till you can't take it no more. You think of all the times you were the reason some were given pain...even being fussed at because of something that you were involved in will fester in your mind till you can't take it anymore. You then ask God to just remove the pain or take you home and when that doesn't happen you give Him a helping. hand. When your that deep in the deep dark hole suicide looks real good.

Feeling alone in the world and unloved. That's why it is so important for you to let the people in your life know how much you love them. It's also very important that you be open to making new friends and bringing others into your life as well. You just never know... some people just need to belong.

Two words: despair and hopelessness. This is of course predicated on an individual's experience. Perceived support and ties to would-be survivors is an important salvation to those experiencing this unspeakable hopelessness and depair.

Continuing mental anguish . Most don't seek death as much as they seek to end the mental anguish .
