Where do so many Americans, particularly in Michigan, get off expecting and thinking they deserve this great financially successful life when they're not even educated? The U.S. is the laughing stock of the world and this is one of the reasons why... We have so much opportunity here, yet so many people grow up to be uneducated losers. What's the deal?

Thanks for the kind words everyone. By the way, since some of you were wondering, I am an American of Pakistani descent. I'm also Christian and have my Master's degree.

I think Americans have developed a sense of entitlement based on the financial, cultural, and military domination of the 20th Century. The 21st Century will see the American Decline. Too few resources, too many demands. If Americans want to improve their own lot in life, they need to think beyond immediate and personal needs. Education is not just about making money in other cultures. Very often, children are encouraged to pursue a more technical educaton to serve society at large. Engineering, biotech, medical studies... all difficult, compared to how most American's approach a college education. But those countries that need more technical expertise will out-run the U.S. in the decades to come.

Mishy, stop with the black face and the high and mighty attitude. I've read your previous questions and frankly you don't strike me as a rocket scientist. Just because you get to live "in da' big house wit da' massa" doesn't mean you get a piece of the pie. People like you sicken me spouting all of this drivel. You know you don't believe anything you are saying you just, for whatever reason, are lacking attention at the moment and you seem to want to get it here. Go back to your $10/hour job (at best) on Monday and suck off your white boss like you usually do. Maybe in 10 or 15 years you might get a promotion and be able to suck off your boss’s boss for another decade. The only laughing stock in here is you and your pathetic attempt to sound either educated or informed! Let me assure you that you are neither.
Get a life!

Additional response to your additional info:
Master's degree huh, and yet you still don't have the education to know that asking why black people eat fried chicken is a racist idiotic thing to say. (See your previous question) Back in your country, as a woman, you would be without a head for even thinking such a thing. You better kiss the ground you walk on that you can say such things. Stop being a female dog before karma kicks you in the $$$.

You're right that America doesn't put enough emphasis on education. It's a national disgrace.
What bothers me is your air of superiority. Your question implies that you've had an education. You've got yours. Screw the others.
A lot of kids do what their parents did, and what their friends are doing, and then discover they have few options, if any. By that time, some are saddled with kids of their own.
Kids lose everything if they don't have involved adults watching out for them. An involved community doesn't hurt, either, instead of all the focus on "me me me." But that won't happen here, and society will run over them like a freight train. The word "loser" is therefore appropriate, but I wonder how many of them understood what they were giving up, when they stopped trying in 8th grade and nobody said boo?
I agree the sense of entitlement is foolish. But they live in one of the world's wealthiest cultures, and kids are pounded by Madison Avenue like the rest of us. They don't know how to stop wanting what they are told to want.
Did you education teach you how to spell compassion?

i think you hit the nail on the head...
we can hold that attitude for only so long... it will soon fall... its inevitable...Rome fell. We don't get or appreciate how lucky we got it here... i think most of us under 50 don't realize it either... we never had it rough nor lived totally hand to mouth... spoiled little brats are we especially in the WASP culture. I am apart of that culture....

It's a sense of entitlement that pervades our culture. Just read these questions. About one in every five is basically, "How can I get what I want without doing what it takes to get it?"
Or, "How can I avoid getting in trouble for something I deserve to get in trouble for?"
