I screamed and the burgler ran away after cutting the screen. I dreamt about robbers the whole night and in the morning I called police. Police made a report and went away.

Is there anything else I can do like booby trap the door or something. I don't even know how to that either.

Glad your ok and can live to tell the story.
What you should do. Is get and ADT system the Fort Knox type. Its the best they have. I have it. You get security screens put on the windows it slike $100 per window looks like a regular ole screen a dumb robber will never know the difference, if a burgular presses or even cuts the screen it sets the alarm off immediatly. Then have alarms on the windows for double protection. And motion sensors. A bad behind dog wouldn't hurt either. Never put a price on your life if you going to get an alarm system get a top of the line the most expensive its your life's worth.
My installation for my alarm was $1500 because I got security screens on each of my 10 windows and door panel monitors and motion sensors. I ay $36 a month for fees. I live in a one level house so I am not able to risk my daugher's life she is barely 2 years old.
Never get a cheap alarm system and this guy WILL come back. Next time with a friend. get security screens ASAP!! Use your credit card or a bank loan find a way to pay for it because they coming back. They are probably watching you. OMG I hope you hear me

Your safety and security are your responsiblity. A security system is great and if you can afford one by all means get one. But you must be able to defend yourself. Call the police then order a pizza, see who gets there first the cops or the pizza. I'm betting on the pizza.

If you choose to arm yourself you must get training if you aren't already familar with weapons. I'd recommend training if you are already familar with weapons.

You cannot set a booby trap for several reasons. #1 is it is non specific it could injure a would be rescue worker, or a neighbor. #2 It is against the law in most states for the previous reason.

"He that…would take away the freedom that belongs to any one….must necessarily be supposed to have a design to take away everything else, that freedom being the foundation of all the rest….and so be looked on as in a state of war.

This makes it lawful for a man to kill a thief who has not in the least hurt him, nor declared any design upon his life, any farther than by the use of force, so to get him in his power as to take away his money, or what he pleases from him; because using force, where he has no right to get me into his power, let his pretense be what it will, I have no reason to suppose that he who would take away my liberty would not, when he had me in his power, take away everything else….the law…cannot interpose to secure my life from present force, which if lost is capable of no reparation, permits me my own defense and the right of war, a liberty to kill the aggressor, because the aggressor allows not time to appeal to our common judge, nor the decision of law, for remedy in a case where the mischief may be irreparable. " John Locke

This was written several hundred years ago but is no less true today. The courts, police and judges are of no use to you if you are dead. You have every right and I believe every obligation to defend yourself. Who can know what other evil your attacker will commit, should you fail to defend yourself and he moves on to the next victim.

I'd want to set up a semi-lethal booby trap, but legally that could give you some problems... a security system is a good way to go, even if it's just an alarm attached to any point of entry.

You acted correctly during the crime. Most burglars are just that and physical confrontation is out of the question.
Now, being siddish is normal and eventually you will have locks put on windows and good lighting during darkness on the exterior. This will give you and law enforcement the ability to see what is happening.
Be smart not emotional. If criminals were smart why would they commit crime?

Lock your side door and put a security system in the house so the alarm goes off if someone attempts another break-in.

Fix the door & lock it. Get a security system. If you're still freaked, ask a friend to stay with you. Or, just move.

Well whatever you do, don't do anything about it YOURSELF.

Call the police and hope they get there in time, and do it right. Individuals shouldn't take their own personal defense upon themselves.
