There's been some recent research (email me and I can find it for you) suggesting that flax OIL is irritating to the male prostate gland. Flax SEEDS are okay. All the oil is locked up inside the seed and you need to either grind it in a coffee grinder or use the oil.
Additionally, several of my nutritionist and naturopathic doctor friends claim that the omega-3's in flax is not very easily extracted by the human body, weather you take the seeds, meal or oil. In that case, you would be throwing your money away. A much better bet for omega-3's is a high-quality fish oil, Nordic Naturals makes good ones.
I do have a vegan EFA (essential fatty acids, of which o-3's are part of) pill made from algae that I take occasionally, but it tastes much worse than the fish oil, in my opinion.
Aside from all that, I sometimes use flax SEEDS (i'm a guy) for their great laxative effect. I put them on cereal or in a smoothie.

Flax seeds are naturally high in Omega 3 fatty acids. If the bottle says three a day, then you are probably fine with that amount. Omega 3 fatty acids on their own will not really help with weight loss, at least not enough for you to notice. Omega 3's are beneficial for your heart function, cholesterol levels, inflammation, and help to combat free radicals. I have never heard of any negative side effects with taking Flax Seeds, flax seed oil, and Omega 3's in general. They are found in high concentrations in Salmon as well. They are naturally occurring and we eat them in our diets all the time, so there are no real side effects. But like anything, too much of any one thing can be bad, take the recommended dose and you'll be fine.

No, no known negative side effects. Flax Seed oil is very safe, and a wonderful source of (as mentioned before) Omega 3's that are great for your hair and your nervous system. Some sources say it is a VERY mild blood thinner, so I use caution when giving it to people who are already on a blood thinner or have a blood clotting disorder. This is just for my peace of mind. I am at windstarhealing.com if you have any questions.

you know, i have researched flax seed oil a bit myself looking to answer the same questions. as far as i know, i dont think there are any negative affects. and it is really healthy, it has all sorts of fats (good fats) that your body needs, such as to make your hair shiny and healthy. so i would encourage you to take it, but buying it in a bottle is very expensive so just grind up flax seeds and eat them with your food every day. they taste good and they are good for your hair.

Nothing! It is an excellent source of omega 3 and so beneficial to the body. Take it for three months, then alternate it with a 6-9 combo to help balance out the body..such as borage, primrose. I take a combo of 3-6-9

major side effect or risk of flax seed use is allergic reactions. If you suddenly have difficulty breathing after taking the supplement, it is imperative that you get medical attention promptly.

yes, bad breath, bad taste in mouth and extremely smelly farts. Better off chewing some flax seeds - less gas.
