I have a '99 Ford Explorer ~ AWD, 8 cylider, Eddie Bauer with 102,000+ miles. I have had great luck with this auto, doing regular maintenance w/oil changes every 3000 miles....never a major problem. I am the original owner. Only replaced plugs and wires and brakes. Heard of the high mileage oil and wanted to know if it does what it says it does and is it worth the added cost to keep the engine better lubed.
I love this SUV and would like to keep it another 100, 000!!!!!
Thanks to all serious answer participants!!!! :-)

Castrol High Mileage

My car ran great until some idiot at a 30 minute lube place told my wife to put that nasty stuff in. After that, it started burning oil and has a click like a rocker arm. It was just fine until they put that damned high milage oil in. So my advice is to stick with the 10w30 or 10w40. My Mom's old 69' Chevelle rolled the odometer on it over seven times before it gave her problems, and she just used that every oil change, 3000 miles.

The best oil I have ever used was valvoline 10W30 up to about 80,000 miles then I switched to valvoline Max Life.I have 165,000 miles on my 98 chevy S-10 and change the oil every 3,000 miles and even at the high mileage the engine oil is still clear when I do change it.All my vechicles have valvoline in them

My dad's 1997 Expedition uses Castrol GTX High Milage it now has 175,000 miles on it and still runs great. It has the 4.6 liter engine the same V8 as the Explorer.

get it, the high milage oil will help to keep your seals fresh and it helps to keep your oil from sludging up, its a great investment. i used it on my car with 158000 and it doesn't burn oil like it used to, it used to go through a quart every 3000 but with valvoline maxlife, that was down to just a hair under the full mark at 3000 miles, i highly recommend

Dont waste your money. As long as you keep your oil fresh, (3000 miles or less), any oil works. I have an '89 F-150 with 217,000 miles on it. never touched engine except clutch. Runs great, no oil loss.

Mainly high milage is oil that has additives to help "condition" seals (aka stop leak) and additives to prevent oil burnoff and th such. If you maintain the vehicle as you say you do, the miracle oils at 50 cents a bottle shouldn't be worth it to you....
