It depends on what you prefer.

If you want to work for someone, there are numerous professions that hire public spokespersons. All of those jobs will give you experience, training, and allow you to network.

If you want self employment you can make it. It will be a lot of hard work and you will work for very little for a few years. Remember most professionals don’t “make it” for about the first 10 years.

You will also need a topic that people want to pay for. Or you can be totally freelance and speak on numerous topics, filling in for cancellations. Most people want experts.

You will need to read up on self employment because you will be in business for yourself.

Things like how to do a press release and where to send them will be vital as you get started. A web site will be nice but not necessary. You will need to start writing articles for both magazines and the web. Remember, they require two different styles of writing. You can hire someone to proof read for you.

After that, start booking speeches where ever you can. Go to hear speeches where ever you can. Look at the speakers and look for the answers to why they are good if they are. How do they dress? What do they have in the way of flyers? Business cards? Back of the room sales products?

Learn by observing.

And start networking with other public speakers.

Eventually you can make it if you don’t give up.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Well, after schooling or some hard earned degree in public speaking, you can start anyway you want... If you are interested in public speaking in terms of news or entertainment, you can apply as a host, newscaster, talk show host, vj, dj, etc... But if you prefer it in the personal way, you can have your seminars concerning important topics and from there on, it could reach the important people who can support you for future talks and stuff... hope I helped!
